Jamie Vardy Officially Joins Serie A Side Cremonese

According to SpboLive, Jamie Vardy was unveiled by Serie A club Cremonese this week, where the veteran striker declared he is eager to silence those who doubt him because of his age.

When asked whether his pace might decline as he nears 40, Vardy fired back:

“You must be one of the doubters—I have to prove you wrong. For me, age is just a number. As long as my legs keep working the way they always have, and I still feel fresh, I’ll keep playing. There’s no sign of slowing down.”

A New Challenge in Italy

Much like his early days at Leicester City, newly promoted Cremonese face an uphill battle to stay in the top flight. Vardy revealed that a lengthy Zoom call with head coach Davide Nicola convinced him to join the club:

“Just looking into his eyes, seeing what he wanted—that really touched me. As a player, you want to feel wanted. After speaking with him and the club president, it was clear: our main task is survival. Honestly, that was the same at Leicester.”

Of course, Vardy did far more than help Leicester survive—he led them to the fairytale 2016 Premier League title, scoring in 11 consecutive matches to set a record.

“We never thought about winning the league,” Vardy recalled. “It was always about staying up, taking it one game at a time. We gave everything each week, and the results came. That’s football.”

Ready to Contribute Immediately

Cremonese have made a bright start to the season with back-to-back wins, including an away victory over AC Milan and a dramatic late triumph against Sassuolo. Vardy is set to wear the No.10 shirt and could make his debut on Monday against Hellas Verona.

At 38, he joins after 13 seasons with Leicester, signing a one-year contract with an option for a second. Sporting director Simone Giacchetta said:

“His story is about dreams coming true—ours as much as his. We’re delighted to have a role model who shows how values can turn an ordinary person into someone extraordinary.”

Experience, Belief, and Gratitude

Vardy also pointed out that working under Enzo Maresca at Leicester prepared him for Italian defensive tactics:

“People said I couldn’t adapt, but I scored 20 goals that season. You’re never too old to learn.”

He added a special thanks to Claudio Ranieri—his former Leicester coach and now an advisor at Roma—for recommending him to Cremonese:

“I know he put in a good word for me with the coach, and I can’t let him down.”
